Official fees for IP Australia to change

IP Australia has advised that it will implement fee changes that will affect trademark, patent, and design registrations in Australia. These fee changes will take effect at 12 a.m. (AEDT), on 10 October 2016.

Trademarks

Under the new fee structure, there will be no final registration fees for trademarks. However, to compensate for this, IP Australia has increased the trademark application fee and the trademark renewal fee.

There are three main changes to take note of:

  • Despite the increase to the trade mark application fee, the overall cost of an Australian trademark application filed after 10 October 2016 will now be AUD$170 less per class.

  • The cost of renewal will increase by $100 per class.

  • There will be no official fee for filing a notice of intent to oppose.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Patents

Under the new fee structure, the fee for the international type search will be significantly reduced; however, renewal fees after the 9th anniversary of a patent will be increased.
